A Hip-Hop Inspired Brand Identity & Exterior Transformation Case Study
Revitalizing a historic New Jersey corner location through virtual design consulting, refined visual identity, and strategic architectural rendering.
Client: Roast & C.R.E.A.M.
Scope: Brand Identity, Interior Design Direction, Exterior Architectural Rendering
Deliverables: Refined Visual Identity, Interior Design Blueprint, Exterior Render
The project began with a historic location in Union City that was in complete disarray after years of neglect. The client faced significant hurdles, from a physically destroyed interior to an initial brand identity that lacked professional polish.

While a full-scale interior design firm was out of the client's budget, they needed a professional "blueprint" to guide their execution. My challenge was to provide high-impact direction virtually, ensuring every tile, color, and fixture choice aligned with an elevated, hip-hop-inspired theme.
Strategic Visual Identity: "The Grind is Real"
Before addressing the physical space, we overhauled the brand identity:
Logo Refinement: I took the client's initial Canva concept and refined it into a professional, scalable mark that could live across signage and merchandise.
The Tagline: I developed "The Grind is Real," a double entendre celebrating both the community's work ethic and the specialty coffee beans served.
Brand Language: Established the vision, mission, and brand pillars that define the shop's local, community-focused personality.

Design Execution: Occupied Minimalism
The interior was designed to be "highly-Instagrammable" yet deeply rooted in the local community. We avoided a "bougie" aesthetic in favor of Occupied Minimalism, clean lines layered with rich cultural texture.
Key interior highlights include:
Cultural Easter Eggs: Record album walls, microphone pendant lights, and hip-hop artist coasters.
Impactful Signage: A neon "Cash Rules Everything Around Me" installation set against exposed brick.
Signature Details: A custom "Drop It Like It's Hot" graphic for the bathroom, blending humor with the brand's hip-hop roots.

The Exterior Transformation
A critical part of the project was the building's exterior. I provided an architectural render to guide the transformation of the storefront into a sleek, modern landmark that stands out on the corner.

Outcome: A Local Landmark
Since opening in 2023, Roast & C.R.E.A.M. has become a thriving cultural hub. It successfully attracts food influencers while remaining a true neighborhood spot for bingo nights, community readings, pop-up events, and more.

The Strategic Impact:
Cost-Efficient Execution: Proved that professional results are possible on a local budget through virtual design direction.
Authentic Niche: Created a brand that feels sophisticated yet accessible and locally grounded.
Operational Success: The shop continues to thrive as a high-traffic destination and community staple.
